Uncullin Mencia, Bierzo, Spain
Jose Antonio Garcia, a young man in the first flushes of his wine making career is charming, considered, thorough and above all in possession of wit and skill - all perfect ingredients to make the perfect wine.
Unculín is a fresh, 'vin de soif' style red made from 80 year old vine Mencia grapes (indigenous to Spain) high up in the Bierzo region (North-West Spain). The grapes are grown without the use of chemicals, fermented in whole bunches and are unfined and unfiltered. Some of these vines are more than 200 years old!!!!
Tastes Like - Medium bodied red with lots of red cherry & raspberry flavours. It's got an energy and freshness unlike the big, heavy and oaky wines you usually find from this region. Pairs well with roasted lamb, pork, or roasted and grilled veggies.
